Re/Gendered brings together a number of high profile international and Australian artists in a group exhibition that celebrates the notion of fluid or ‘unstable’ gender. These artists all aim to transgress and blur the boundaries of gender performance. Often using drag as a technique to destabilise identity, these diverse artists disrupt and subvert the traditional binary system of gender. In turns joyful, disturbing, and deliberately ambiguous, these artworks expose the theatricality involved in our everyday performance of gender roles.

This art exhibition runs until February 6, 2010.

Trish Morrissey
Centre for Contemporary Photography – Gallery 3

Trish_Morrissey_photographic_exhibition

In the four works that comprise this exhibition Trish Morrissey employs self-portraiture, performance and wit as tools to investigate the boundaries of photographic meaning through still and moving images. The humour often evaporates, leaving a slow-burning psychologically tense afterglow. Weaving fact and fiction, she plunges into the heart of such issues as family experiences and national identities, Irish middle-class values, feminine and masculine roles, and relationships between strangers.

This photographic exhibition runs until March 14, 2010.

New Latex Ink Printer at the Colour Factory

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

We have a new printer at the Colour Factory! It is a latex ink printer that uses biodegradable and non-toxic consumables.

Primarily for commercial applications this printer compares in quality to our fine art ink jet printer. The latex inks are designed for shorter term, outdoor usage and are not museum quality archival. However, they will still last for many years.

The good news for artists is that we can now print onto an even wider choice of materials including fabrics, and they are non-toxic to work with!

How to Determine the Best Way to Print Your Art

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

At the Colour Factory we specialise in printing. Many photographers and artists debate camera versus camera, lens versus lens, film versus megapixel, and which process creates the best picture. This is often a digital assessment. However, an image is not complete until it has been printed, and it is then that we should make our comparisons.

With so many print choices available today it is often difficult to choose which substrate best suits your image.

Photographic or ink jet is a big question. If one chooses ink jet, then the choice gets bigger. We encourage you to come into the Colour Factory where we can discuss a variety of paper surfaces and print some tests. This will help you choose the best paper surface to suit your work aesthetically and conceptually. Ultimately how it looks once PRINTED is what’s important.

A Camera on the Somme Exhibition Touring Australia

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Late in 2009, the ‘A Camera on the Somme’ photographicGrinton_WW1_lr
exhibition visited the Bendigo Art Gallery.

This extraordinary exhibition showcases images taken by two Australian soldiers, Jack and Bert Grinton, during the First World War between 1916 and 1919.

The exhibition reveals the development and artistry of amateur photography as the images, previously lost for 90 years and later found in a biscuit tin, capture people and places which were often overlooked by official war photographers.

This year the exhibition will tour other galleries across Queensland and Victoria, which are listed below:

Ipswich Art Gallery, QLD
23 January – 21 March 2010

Mc Clelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, VIC
25 April – 27 June 2010

Shrine of Remembrance, VIC
October 2010 – February 2011
